First of all, I don't know if you can tell just by looking at it, but this dress is one of the most comfortable things I've ever put on. It's so flowy, and the cinched waist helps it hug all the right places. Dress it down with just a pair of slides for these warmer end of summer days, or throw on a leather jacket and boots for the transition into fall.
Yesterday I set my alarm for 3:30am with the intention of heading to Mount Rainier to watch the sunrise. I tried this once last week and when my alarm went off, I laughed and immediately rolled over and went back to sleep. But this time I was prepared; I bought snacks and dug my thermos out from the back of the cupboard, 'cause there's no way I'm getting on the road at 4am without a giant jug of coffee.
There's an alarming number of people on the freeway at 4 in the morning. But the farther out of town you get, the more the number of cars dwindles, until you feel like you're the only person up. The only sign of life once I reached my sunrise-viewing spot was a few cars parked at a trail head belonging to, I'm assuming, people with way more dedication than me, who got up early enough to hike to their viewpoint. Baby steps.
There's something about sitting on a ledge, watching the sun rise over the world that makes you feel so small in the best way possible. It's like you were let in on a secret and you get to watch the whole world wake up.
I ended up driving into Mount Rainier National Park and spent the whole morning driving around, gasping, saying "oh my god" out loud to myself every time I came around a corner and saw Mount Rainier standing so close it felt like it was smacking me in the face. How do I not come here every day? It's funny how you get so wrapped up in your day to day to life that you forget the things that are just a couple extra steps out the door.
Even if you're not a morning person; maybe especially if you're not a morning person, I recommend watching the sun rise every so often. And I recommend doing it solo. If you regularly adventure solo, you know. If you don't, you need to know. Not everybody likes to be alone, and I get that. But every once in awhile, it's necessary for the soul. Maybe you'll get better at it with practice.
