City Guide: San Diego

Before I moved to LA, I first stayed in San Diego for 2 months with friends while I found an apartment and a job. They lived half a block off Mission Bay in Pacific Beach and I was in hog heaven. After having just driven all the way down the west coast, I felt so free and like the world was my oyster. I didn't visit SD very much after I "lived" there, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Last week I got to go back with a friend and her family, and it felt really good to be there again. Most importantly, I got to eat what I miss most: the famous açai bowl. They just don't make 'em like they do in San Diego. And the ones from Better Buzz Coffee might be the best in San DIego. Their matcha lattés aren't bad either.

It was such a relaxing few days. We laid on the beach, rented bikes, ate breakfast burritos (another thing I miss from California), and maybe had a fishbowl drink or two.

On our last day we ventured to La Jolla and got a turkey burger from Burger Lounge (surprisingly good), and then grabbed drinks at Herringbone, which is complete and total design goals. We didn't get food, but I hear it's incredible and their drinks are fantastic. And really I could just not order anything and sit in the space for hours.

Our last night we all went for amazing Italian food in Little Italy. If you know Little Italy, San Diego, you know the Busalacchi's. With numerous family restaurants in the area, they just turned Po Pazzo into Barbusa. It went from a more traditional feel to a gorgeous, trendy open space great for everything from date night to family dinner. We happened to be in the neighborhood on their friends and family night, so we stopped in to congratulate them on the new restaurant and of course get a glass of wine.

It was so nice to be in the sunshine on the beach and take the week off and most importantly, eat everything I've missed in San Diego! Thank you SO much to Jamie and her wonderful clan for letting me crash family week and indulge myself.

Til next time, San Diego!
