I will just start by saying, I am by no means a health/wellness expert, or even claim to know hardly anything about the subject. I DO however, strive to live better every day, and that means something different for everybody. I think the most important thing is to get to know yourself and your body and what feels the best to you. These are a few things that I've been loving lately and make me feel the best!
1. WATER WATER WATER
That's all. Drink water. I start my day with a big cold glass of H2O, EVEN BEFORE I have any coffee. And I always have a full bottle or glass at my desk. To be honest, I don't really keep track of how much I drink, nor do I make it a specific goal to achieve "8 glasses a day", but I do know that I feel better all around when I'm properly hydrated.
Even if I feel unnecessarily hungry in the middle of the day, I try an extra glass before I eat any food. Sometimes what your body really wants is water when you think it wants food.
I'm sure we've all gotten a Lululemon bag or two with the life advice "sweat once a day." I actually think this is one of the best things you can do for your body. Lately I find myself wanting to work out more for how I feel than how I look. Of course the added benefit of losing weight, or toned muscles, or whatever your goal, is great, but it's amazing the difference I have in energy when I start my day with a workout, or the quality of sleep I get when I end my day at the gym. What are your favorite ways to get a sweat in?
If none of your other meals are balanced, at least have a well-rounded breakfast. (All of your meals should probably have a few food groups in them, but who am I to say). I like to start my day with a piece of whole wheat or multi-grain toast, some form of greenery (arugula, spinach, avocado), and then my favorite part: the egg. I like to make a fried over-medium egg to top it all off and round out my meal.
Some fun additions:
+ pink Himalayan sea salt
+ crushed red pepper flakes
+ pepper jelly on toast (topped with the greens and egg)
+ deli ham or turkey briefly pan-fried and put between the toast and the egg
What's your favorite healthy breakfast? I'm always looking for new ideas!
4. SNACK. I love snacks.
I love cheese. So much. I can't eat it for every meal, as much as I'd like to, but I like to keep string cheese around the house, as well as raw almonds, and grab a handful with some string cheese if I need a little snack between meals.
I also really love peanut butter, and almond butter is a good alternative to grab a fly-by spoonful on my way through the kitchen. Sprinkle some cinnamon on it if you want to spice it up a bit.
Because snacks deserve a second category, and can we consider juice a snack? I'm going to. Some people swear by the ol' juice cleanse. Some people want an already prepared meal or snack they can grab out of the fridge on their way out the door in the morning. I love to take one with me on my errands, or chug one before/after a workout. Suja Juice has it all. So many flavors, I challenge you to not be able to find at least one that you love.
They claim to have "a juice for every lifestyle", and it's true. You can choose between a 1, 3, or 5-day cleanse. There are probiotic waters, "Suja Elements" with green juices and antioxidants, or any number of their "Classics" with anything from Lavenade to a Master Cleanse lemon-cayenne combo that we all know and love, to a carrot, orange, and pineapple combo.
Something they're doing a little differently is their 1-Day Renewal that takes 3 juices (morning, noon, night) and pairs them with mini-meals throughout the day with options for everyone and their lifestyle.
A few of my favorite flavors:
Green Supreme - makes me feel extra healthy.
Lemon Love - call me crazy, but put some cayenne in lemon water and I'm sold. So fresh, with a little kick.
Spark - berries with a little sweetener and cayenne. 'Nuff said.
Mango Magic - personally, mango might be my favorite flavor for anything.
